Welcome to Lost the Plot. The home of trainee garden designer Liz Brewer, who specialises in designing beautiful small gardens.

The dream

As soon as I made my mind up to become a garden designer, I wanted to magically turn into one over night. I had this mini epiphany after deciding to leave my career working in Advertising. It is as though gardening kind of found me when I was desperate to channel my ideas into something new. I nervously attempted to transform our little courtyard garden and quickly began to enjoy my new found hobby. I secretly had a feeling that one day I would love to design gardens.

So here I am, taking my first proper steps towards fulfilling my dream. I'm currently doing a home study Garden Design course through the Blackford Centre for Garden Design and have only a few more modules to go before I am accredited with a Diploma in Garden Designer, which I shall frame and put up in my potting shed.

I have also randomly found myself in an incredible position of designing a Sculpture Garden tradestand for the very talented sculptor Chris Webb at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2014. A bizarre turn of events finds myself with this wonderful opportunity which I intend to grab with both hands and document my crazy journey to Chelsea via my blog...

Alongside my studies and Chelsea (!) - I'm usually knee deep in building train sets with my son, or up to my ears in flour and water in messy play. As well as helping my clients with their marketing goals when I put on my Creating Mischief hat.
