Sanctuary Meadow

New home, new garden

Sanctuary Meadow garden is the largest project to date that I have worked on. A really exciting opportunity and a complete blank canvas for me, as my client was seeking a lovely garden to complement her brand new home that had just been built. They were after a natural garden, not too formal, not too labour intensive and they did not want to see a Red Hot Poker in sight! At this point in time, they only intend to live in the house for a couple of years, and hoped that a family will eventually enjoy moving in. With this to consider, I planned the design with a family in mind. For example, the design might show a round border, but I would indicate that this border could be converted into a sunken trampoline, should a family wish to do this in the future.

My idea was to create pockets of space that will feel like real garden ‘sanctuaries’ to enjoy, along with incorporating a wild meadow for all the insects and birds to enjoy too. The design will echo the name of the property ‘Sanctuary Meadow’. Whilst they enjoy gardening they didn’t want to tend to too many borders and spend hours gardening, so I needed a design idea that they could look after with ease. With the overall look and feel of the design to encompass and complement the lovely view from the patio, to be naturalistic yet, also quite practical.

Project completion date: Spring / Summer 2021
