New patio and parking area

Every garden usually requires a space (or several) spaces to be able to sit out in and enjoy entertaining or just relaxing in. My client had purchased a beautiful piece of outdoor garden furniture and wanted to give it a proper home for it as it was just placed on the lawn which wasn’t very practical. They wanted to enjoy many alfresco dinner parties around it or just be able to pop out and have lunch in the garden on a lovely summer’s day. We talked about initially having a circular patio in the lawn near to the house, but then felt this might make cutting the grass a bit difficult and also quite possibly stand out amongst the rest of the garden. My client was seeking a low maintenance design solution, so we looked at the border by the garage / shed and felt this could be a wonderful setting for their new alfresco outdoor experience!

Both were a bit frustrated by this border, as it was quite hard work to keep it in check. So I felt that there was an opportunity here to really transform this space and form a new patio area here. Along with container planting ideas that would provide all year round interest, scent and colour, but without having to work too hard to keep them looking beautiful.

Add off the back of a quick sketch I also designed a new car parking area. Using a large part of lawn that was a bit obsolete a nice parking area was carved into this space. So now when you arrive to the cottage two cars can now comfortably park and turn easily as it was quite tricky before.

Below are photos of the space as it currently looked followed by my design concept.
